At the One Planet Summit in Nairobi in 2019, the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the Trade and Development Bank of Eastern and Southern Africa (TDB) signed a letter of declaration formalising their commitment to a $ 120 M line of credit to finance climate projects on the African continent.

Find out more on the AFD press release.

The targeted climate-focused projects concern renewable energies, carbon emission reduction and energy efficiency, agriculture, forestry and land use planning, non-energy emission reduction, waste management, infrastructure and sustainable buildings.

The two institutions are also committed to promoting the role of multilateral and bilateral banks in financing climate-related projects.
As both institutions are members of the International Finance Development Club (IDFC), AFD has pledged to support and facilitate TDB's participation in the IDFC, involving the harmonisation of TDB's climate finance data with the IDFC's methodologies, as well as with the objectives of the Paris Agreement. This collaboration will strengthen both institutions' commitment to climate finance and contribute to global efforts to combat climate change.

Our network demonstrates that development banks can champion climate-friendly investments, a key message of the One Planet Summit.
