THE 12 #ONEPLANET
COMMITMENTS

On 12 December 2017, the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, the President of the World Bank Group, Jim Yong Kim, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, will address the ecological emergency for our planet by calling together in Paris international leaders and committed citizens from around the world.

Two years to the day after the historic Paris Agreement, it is time for concrete action. Many stakeholders are already taking action and will present projects illustrating the ongoing transition. Much remains to be done to achieve our goals: commitments will be made.

3 goals, 1 commitment: taking action together.

Adaptation, mitigation, mobilization. The Summit’s three key words will be discussed in the afternoon and each promoted by one of the three co-organizers: Antonio Guterres, Emmanuel Macron and Jim Yong Kim. The One Planet Summit is an alliance of hundreds of global leaders from all sectors, determined to demonstrate the power of collective action in addressing such a global issue as the fight against climate change. The aim is to find new means of financing the adaptation of our ways of life to inevitable transformations, of further speeding up the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and of ensuring climate issues are central to the finance sector.

Projects for our planet.

At the heart of the Summit, some 20 projects will be showcased. These projects will be presented during the round tables in the morning, the Climate Agora at lunchtime and during the afternoon sessions. They illustrate the fact that concrete local and global solutions exist to address the challenges we face. They need to be stepped up and replicated, and to serve as a source of inspiration around the world. They demonstrate that we are committed to a new world, to preserve the future of our one and only planet.

La Seine Musicale

The One Planet Summit will welcome its participants in a stunning location. The crowning glory of Île Seguin in western Paris, La Seine Musicale was designed in a manner which pays tribute to the site and its industrial past.

Its contours follow the shape of the downstream end of the island. The Seine Musicale plays on reflections from the water: the Auditorium is located on the Seine and its wooden grid-shell seems to float on the river. A huge sail adorned with over 1,000m² of photovoltaic solar panels, revolving around the wooden dome, will follow the path of the sun. The Auditorium and its sail give this project a unique identity.

They are a new symbol for the western edge of Paris, reflecting the cultural outreach of La Seine Musicale and its ambition to be part of an eco-friendly future.
